Since the new UK wide lockdown came into force in early January, it has now become clear that continued restrictions on mass gatherings, travel and ongoing uncertainty about what restrictions will be in place from 1st April 2021 means that the Bolton Marathon, 10k and Bolton at Home Family Fun Run will not take place over the weekend of 15th/16th May 2021. I have decided that we will not postpone the event to a later date as we have done in the past. We will be delivering an event, albeit different from what we wanted, whilst offering the option for people to defer their entry to 2022.
One of the main aims of the Bolton Marathon is to give back to the local community and on 12th October 2020 we received confirmation that the Bolton Marathon Community Trust had been accepted onto the Charity Commission’s register as a registered charity in the UK!
We’re on the hunt for some unique people. People who share our passion for the community and sustainability but are also outgoing, ambitious and not camera shy! Oh and you need to like running!
We want to hear from anyone who is running our event and wants to share their journey to the start line and beyond! With almost 8 months or 228 days (at time of writing) to be exact to go until the start of the 2021 race, there’s one hell of a journey we want you to share with others.
When I go for a run, I create absolutely zero waste. I drop no litter, I don’t use any single use plastic and leave no trace on the environment. I trust you are safe and well as we all do our bit to get through the current health crisis. I wanted to update you on our plans for the rescheduled Bolton Marathon and Bolton Marathon 10k.
As a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic the Bolton Marathon and 10k will not take place in 2020. This decision has not been taken lightly. The impact on our NHS, local authority services, local businesses plus the continued uncertainty about when restrictions will be eased means we’re unable to guarantee a safe event for later this year even if life can go back to a semblance of “normality”. Sorry we’ve been off the radar a little over these past few days, but as I said in my social media video on Saturday, we have been taking stock of all the options and advice available to us and are working hard to put the right plan into action for these challenging months ahead.
Schoolchildren in Bolton will be the first people to take part in the town’s resurrected marathon, 33 years after it was last run.
Sixty primary schools and one special school across the borough have pledged to get active with the help of Bolton Marathon organisers in an exciting challenge.
From Monday February 24, the youngsters are being challenged to take part in 15 minutes of activity a day. (more…)
