Get involved!

Volunteer

Our volunteers are key to the success of the race.

We know there are so many friendly, welcoming and generous people in and around Bolton and we need you! Our route goes all round Bolton and we want the whole town to get behind it and show off everything Bolton has to offer!

We believe our volunteers are just as important as the runners taking part. If you are a member of an affiliated running club and volunteer we are going to reward your club.

For every person who enters the marathon from your club, we will give you one point. The same applies to volunteers from your club. Volunteer and we give your club one point. The top 3 clubs after the marathon will receive a cash prize to be used by your club!

Plus you’ll receive some great kit for free and have the kudos of being part of the team that delivers the BEST ROAD MARATHON IN THE UK!

Did you complete the Original Bolton Marathon during the 1980s?

We want to speak to you! The original marathon was an iconic, internationally recognised race and we are looking for anyone who completed one of the original marathons to volunteer as part of our team of LEGENDS! Our Legends will be present around the Athlete Village and the start and finish areas throughout the weekend to be a constant source of energy and enthusiasm for the Bolton Marathon.

We want you to tell stories about your experiences of the original marathon – the heat, the support on Plodder Lane, the finish on Hulton Lane playing fields or the 8,000+ people at the start line!

You’ll be given a unique “Legends” t-shirt and hoody and all you need to do is have bags of energy for Bolton and the marathon and make everyone’s experience of the Bolton Marathon absolutely LEGENDARY!

We have a variety of roles across the 3 day event including:

  • General route Ambassador
  • Spectator area Ambassador (on course)
  • Registration
  • Athlete Village Ambassador
  • Clear Up
  • Bag Drop/Collection
  • Finish Area
  • Feed stations
  • Pacers
  • LEGENDS (Only open to those who have completed the Original Bolton Marathon 1981-1987)
